Anger & Glad: Passion, Resilience, and Celebration
“Feelings awaken us to needs that can be communicated to our selves, others, and God if we remain sensitive to voicing what happens within us. Needs point towards our desire for life itself. Desire speaks towards the longings to have life a certain way. And longings bring us to envisioning and toward a life we hope for. This hope returns to the necessity of our feelings, for with every hope we have feelings.” -Dr. Chip Dodd from Keeping Heart
Introducing our 2027 workshop series:
Feelings as Tools for a Full Life
This is a four-part series about exploring the eight core feelings as tools to lead you and others to a richer, fuller life. (No prior attendance required. Jump in at any time! Every workshop is designed to be independent, though you’ll get the greatest benefit by joining us for the full series.)
Shame and Fear Workshop - Embracing these emotions builds meaningful connections, whereas avoiding them leads to toxic anxiety and isolation.
Sad and Lonely Workshop - Facing our inherent sadness and loneliness allows us to embrace vulnerability, find comfort in community, and restore our connection to others and God.
Guilt and Hurt Workshop - Viewing hurt and guilt as healthy indicators of relationally damaged boundaries enables us to heal past wounds, seek forgiveness, and build deeper, non-codependent connections.
Anger and Glad Workshop - Healthy anger creates passion that builds the resilience needed to process life’s painful emotions. Through our anger and tolerance of all other emotions, we develop the courage required to experience genuine gladness and live fully.
Holiday Season Workshop - a free workshop to align your 2028 goals with your core values and mission.
The Anger and Glad Workshop
Don’t be confused - healthy anger is not rage. Healthy anger is a vital tool that signals hunger, thirst, longing, and desire. It moves us to action, even though that movement may require risk and pain. The term rage is often used to describe someone who is actually feeling fear and a loss of control.
Healthy anger is the necessary energy that moves us toward life to the full, that creates things and moves us to pursue what we love. It is a fierce energy that contends with obstacles with resilience.
Dr. Chip Dodd writes this about the feeling of glad in his book Keeping Heart: “This (glad) is an outcome of being adept at the other seven feelings… When we face and feel life with hope, longings, desires, and needs, we will have a multitude of celebrations, minute and large, and a multitude of losses, large and minute…”
Our anger, desire, and passion for life, allows us to move through the other six feelings (sad, hurt, lonely, shame, guilt, and fear) so that we can obtain life to the full. When we bear all seven of these feelings well, we experience gladness.
“Gladness occurs as an outcome of the courage to feel… It is birthed and grown over and over again out of one’s willingness to participate in life… We have found that all feelings can bring us the gifts that allow us to remain vitally connected to life and love.” (Keeping Heart by Dr. Chip Dodd) Without healthy anger, passion, and desire, we will find ourselves in apathy, depression, and the diminishment of living fully and loving deeply.
This workshop will reveal how reaching, risking, caring, and growing allows us the ability to struggle well in a place of inevitable pain.
“Humans cannot have fulfillment without pain and no celebration exists without it either, for even celebrations have ends. Life to the full is actually lived between how well we celebrate and grieve.”
