Guilt & Hurt: From Hurting to Healing

Feelings awaken us to needs that can be communicated to our selves, others, and God if we remain sensitive to voicing what happens within us. Needs point towards our desire for life itself. Desire speaks towards the longings to have life a certain way. And longings bring us to envisioning and toward a life we hope for. This hope returns to the necessity of our feelings, for with every hope we have feelings.” -Dr. Chip Dodd from Keeping Heart

Introducing our 2027 workshop series:

Feelings as Tools for a Full Life

This is a four-part series about exploring the eight core feelings as tools to lead you and others to a richer, fuller life. (No prior attendance required. Jump in at any time! Every workshop is designed to be independent, though you’ll get the greatest benefit by joining us for the full series.)

  1. Shame and Fear Workshop - Embracing these emotions builds meaningful connections, whereas avoiding them leads to toxic anxiety and isolation.

  2. Sad and Lonely Workshop - Facing our inherent sadness and loneliness allows us to embrace vulnerability, find comfort in community, and restore our connection to others and God.

  3. Guilt and Hurt Workshop - Viewing hurt and guilt as healthy indicators of relationally damaged boundaries enables us to heal past wounds, seek forgiveness, and build deeper, non-codependent connections.

  4. Anger and Glad Workshop - Healthy anger creates passion that builds the resilience needed to process life’s painful emotions. Through our anger and tolerance of all other emotions, we develop the courage required to experience genuine gladness and live fully.

  5. Holiday Season Workshop - a free workshop to align your 2028 goals with your core values and mission.

The Guilt and Hurt Workshop

Similar to how dashboard warning lights in a vehicle provide information about something needing repair and restoration, the feelings of guilt and hurt serve as indicators of what needs repair and restoration in our relationships.

Hurt is an emotional response to an attachment being damaged or severed. It tells us that someone we care about has wounded us or that a meaningful connection has been compromised. Similarly, healthy guilt serves as an indicator for alerting us that we have crossed a boundary, violated our own value system, or harmed another person.

Hurt tells us we have been wounded and guilt tells us we have wounded someone else.

To know our own hurt and have memories of our own stories, we can more easily recognize healthy guilt when we hurt or harm others around us. The beauty of hurt and guilt is that they lead us to healing and forgiveness.

However, when these feelings are distorted by codependency or family dysfunction, they can spiral into a loop of toxic shame and resentment. We are responsible towards others, not for their actions, emotions, thoughts or opinions.

This workshop will explore how we can relate to those we hurt because we can remember our own hurts in life. Similarly, failing to feel the pain of hurt, or healing the hurts of our own past, results in our self-protection becoming harmful to ourselves and others.

Join us as we help you navigate solutions to hurt and guilt so you can help yourself and others live in relationship fully.
