Sad & Lonely: From Isolation to Connection

Feelings awaken us to needs that can be communicated to our selves, others, and God if we remain sensitive to voicing what happens within us. Needs point towards our desire for life itself. Desire speaks towards the longings to have life a certain way. And longings bring us to envisioning and toward a life we hope for. This hope returns to the necessity of our feelings, for with every hope we have feelings.” -Dr. Chip Dodd from Keeping Heart

Introducing our 2027 workshop series:

Feelings as Tools for a Full Life

This is a four-part series about exploring the eight core feelings as tools to lead you and others to a richer, fuller life. (No prior attendance required. Jump in at any time! Every workshop is designed to be independent, though you’ll get the greatest benefit by joining us for the full series.)

  1. Shame and Fear Workshop - Embracing these emotions builds meaningful connections, whereas avoiding them leads to toxic anxiety and isolation.

  2. Sad and Lonely Workshop - Facing our inherent sadness and loneliness allows us to embrace vulnerability, find comfort in community, and restore our connection to others and God.

  3. Guilt and Hurt Workshop - Viewing hurt and guilt as healthy indicators of relationally damaged boundaries enables us to heal past wounds, seek forgiveness, and build deeper, non-codependent connections.

  4. Anger and Glad Workshop - Healthy anger creates passion that builds the resilience needed to process life’s painful emotions. Through our anger and tolerance of all other emotions, we develop the courage required to experience genuine gladness and live fully.

  5. Holiday Season Workshop - a free workshop to align your 2028 goals with your core values and mission.

The Sad and Lonely Workshop

One of the great truths of life that lead to struggle is that “life is tragic, and God is faithful.” It is impossible to experience life without loss and brokenness. We feel sad when we experience life in a way we wish wasn’t happening. Sadness is our attachment feeling and occurs as a result of caring.

Another feeling that tells us we care, that we belong and that we matter is loneliness. Lonely speaks to how we are made for relationship and that we are incomplete without one another.

In health, the need to grieve something lost helps us restore our connection to others, ourselves, and to God. Loneliness, often accompanied by sadness, can help move us back to connection to others rather than isolating.

The courage to face sadness creates an invitation to reach out to those who care about us. By sharing our loneliness and sadness with others, our “band of others” can help alleviate our sorrows by fulfilling the needs of belonging and mattering, and the needs to be comforted and helped.

In this workshop we will discover the ways that our sadness actually leads us to the benefits of  vulnerability when we share the sadness with others and allow intimacy to occur.
