The Map of Freedom is a diagram of the steps and the process through which we can gain when we reclaim our makeup as God predesigned us.

  1. The steps and growth set us free to give our gifts, trust outcomes to God, walk in integrity, and lead well. (See The Map of Freedom in Free Resources)

  2. The process of growth can overcome toxic shame, false rules, imposed roles, and survival scripts that block a person from being and doing who and what God designed them to be and do.

The Map of Freedom is not so much about learning something as returning to something. We return to how we are made, then we learn to use what we have “rediscovered.”

We return to stewarding how God made us before we steward what God has given us the opportunity to do.

What is the benefit or payoff?

By returning to our origins:

  • We remember what it is like to hope and believe how “things in life could be,” instead of always focusing on what “things have turned into.”

  • We are defeated less and risk more.

  • We can picture how the world is meant to be and work towards that.

  • We truly see the “glass as half full,” while dealing in the reality that we do indeed live in a broken place where “hearts break and people die.”

The result is that the reawakened heart brings light to dark places with faith; creative solutions to destructive problems with hope; wisdom to struggles that seem unfathomable; and courage to places of danger. The child grows into the man or woman that God designed instead of what the world molded.

The third movement of the Map of Freedom is “Give You”

To “give you” follows by its very nature and order what occurs when a person returns to how God created us to live fully, love deeply, and lead well by doing so in relationship with our own hearts, the hearts of others, and the heart of God.

To “Give You” follows the return to facing, feeling, and dealing with how God created us as emotional and spiritual creatures, created to find fulfillment in relationship.

To offer one’s own emotional and spiritual makeup to others and God is an automatic and natural response to being fully alive.

To seek fulfillment in relationship is normal and yet once a person loses connection to the voice of the heart, normal seems foreign.

To give you is the beginning of living one’s own fullest expression of who God made and how God made all of us.

The expression of “give you,” and its benefits:

  • To “give you” allows us to reach out towards experiencing connection of friendship and being able to offer the same after experiencing it.

  • Having parents who “feed” the need for relationship with affirmation and confirmation support the child in knowing what it is to offer affirmation and confirmation.

  • A friend is someone who cuts your sorrows in half and doubles your joy. This means that they meet the needs of the heart to “not live alone.”

  • Being connected in “heart” to others is to know that we are not alone.

  • To “give you” does require courage of risking, and that courage is often developed in affirming homes. If not developed there, we must rediscover it later.

  • That courage we need is the willingness to be vulnerable in our God-created dependency.

  • Episodes #6-7 discuss the need to form a Circle of Security so that we all have places in our lives in which we can struggle with dependency and vulnerability and others can do the same with confidence of friendship.

“Give You” is only the beginning.

To “give you” is not an arrival.

The ability opens the door to:

  • growth,

  • expansion of gifts,

  • increase of courage,

  • tolerance for life’s inevitable struggles.

Please review the Map of Freedom to see how “Give You” will lead to the need to move to the next phase of development. “Give You” will lead to the need to face, feel, and deal with life on life’s with feelings.
