STARS Counselors Workshop (2 CEs)

  • Woodmont Hills Church 3710 Franklin Pike Nashville, TN USA (map)

Join Colton Shannon, Ph.D. and Mark Schmahl, LMFT, for a two-hour workshop to explore attachment, stress, and passion.

If we are fully involved in our own lives and willing to participate in the lives of those we help, we will pour ourselves out daily, requiring that we renew ourselves daily. Clinicians that stay well throughout their career are those who know how to deal with stress. Stress has often been considered as a negative and we need to do all we can to eliminate it from our lives.

Many of us do not know the benefits of stress when it is used for our benefit. For clinicians (and any person who cares about others), attachment with our clients must be foundationally anchored to our attachment with our Self, or our heart. This course will focus on how to return to our own attachment system so we can become an attachment figure for the children we serve.

Join us for a 2-hour workshop to understand more fully what it means to be a good enough parent.

Continuing Education Credit Available: 2 NBCC hours.

To receive credit, participants must sign in, be present throughout, and complete assessment and evaluation at the end of the training. Designated breaks do not count towards CE credits. About the Presenters

Colton Shannon, PhD, LPC-MHSP is a professional counselor and founder of the Voice of the Heart Center close to downtown Murfreesboro, TN. He holds a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from Trevecca Nazarene University. His research there was in stress, burnout, and social support. He is a licensed professional counselor in Tennessee. Chip’s books on heart and the Spiritual Root System were doorways for him to enter to see and understand his own pain. Read more about Dr. Shannon here.

Mark Schmahl, LMFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist at the Voice of the Heart Center and is passionate about helping people live fully in their relationship with themselves, others, and God. His therapeutic perspective has been shaped by the Spiritual Root System, Restoration Therapy, Relational Life Therapy, and Attachment Theory.

He spent 15 years serving in full-time ministry. During this time he began to realize that in order to take care of others, he had to learn to take care of myself. This journey led him down his own path of recovery and therapy into a better understanding of how to care for and be present with others.
